meaningful ornament

At this time of year, those of us who have lost parents or family members sometimes feel sad. Wishing they could be here, remembering holidays celebrated with them.

I made an ornament out of one of my mom’s recipe cards so that a special part of her will be on our tree each year. We also made one another year when Doug’s brother was living in Africa and sent us frequent cards.

Just cut out a shape from the familiar handwriting, sew on a few baubles, add a hanger and maybe some beads. Voila!

So simple you can do it with your children.

Feed the Birds!

Make a simple birdfeeder.  Take a fresh bagel and push sunflower seeds into it.  Let it dry and hang in the tree for the birds.  The birds eat the seeds and the bagel.  It is great fine motor work for young hands.  If you have a mixed bird seed mix, add in the challenge of sorting out the sunflower seeds to use.
